Carlos Caribe Ruiz: The Man and His Music is a lecture and dance workshop presented by the American Sabor exhibit of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance.
Joseph Ruiz and Nilda Pauley, son and daughter of the legendary pioneer of the Puerto Rican community in Chicago, will take guests on a journey of stories and documentation on Caribe Ruiz’ community work and his passion for music and dance.
And do not miss the American Sabor exhibit. Latino musicians have had a profound influence on traditional genres of music in the United States, including jazz, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll and hip hop. American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music, a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian, presents the musical contributions of U.S. Latinos from the 1940s to the present, exploring the social history and individual creativity that produced stars like Tito Puente, Ritchie Valens, Celia Cruz, Carlos Santana and Selena.
