Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts is celebrating the release of Alfonso Maya’s new CD, Todo el Universo. They’ll also celebrate the 20th anniversary of La Peña del Sur, which has brought the Bay Area some of the best trova that Latin America has to offer!!
A true master of the “trova” genre of acoustic balladry and social protest song, Alfonso’s music combines insightful, poetic lyrics with contagious melodies that have universal appeal. He presents entrancing melodies that leave audiences equally enlightened and entertained. Alfonso possesses a classic voice for Latino ballad and a gift for creating haunting melodies, combining elements of bossa nova, jazz, funk, rock, pop, folk, son jarocho, and other world rhythms to produce rhythmic creations that are unique and inimitable.
