A team of Dominican artists literally took a snapshot of their country’s tangled relationship with the neighboring Haiti through the performance piece Trenzados, shown at the Galería de La Raza in picture format. Sayuri Guzmán presents 16 women from both sides of the island, with their hair braided together to “evoke a ritual of solidarity and a metaphor of the racial, ethnic and historical interconnectedness that defy the political divide between the two countries.” The result was photographed by José Joga and recorded by José Pión.
