From Panama via Oakland: Los Rakas

One of the highlights of our Remezcla/MySpace Latino La Otra Puerta concert at 111 Minna Gallery on June 22nd was the impromptu visit of Panamanian rappers Los Rakas, who stopped by to free style over DJ Oro11’s mashups of cumbia, dancehall, reggae and hip hop. And it was definitely an eventful moment of the night because even though we were ecstatic to have Dun Dun and Rico perform, one of them was underage, and well, after 20 minutes they were escorted out of the venue…pa’ evitar problemas con la ley.

BUT! Los Rakas will be performing tomorrow night at Tormenta Tropical’s monthly shindig at The Rickshaw Stop (18 and over event!!). Besides resident DJs and Bersa Discos founders DJ Oro11 and Disco Shawn spinninng at Tormenta Tropical, the special guest will be DJ Panik, who’s been mixing cumbia with crunk in Texas, of all places, so this should be a jjjjjottt night.
